The Best Home Renovation Projects to Consider

Here are some ideas for renovating your home in 2021.

We all spent plenty of time in our homes in 2020, which means some of you might be wondering what the top home renovation projects are for 2021. According to a recent survey done by Axiom, here are the top six most popular projects homeowners are looking forward to doing this year:

1. Landscaping/yard work: 35%
2. Bathroom remodeling: 31%
3. Kitchen remodeling: 27%
4. Bedroom remodeling: 26%
5. Deck or patio remodeling: 25%
6. Office renovation: 16%

My interpretation of these results is that many people want to create their home oasis. When you combine the number of people who want to do yard work and a deck or patio remodeling, it means many people also want to do outdoor projects. If you’re planning home renovation projects, the first thing you should do is look at their cost versus value. According to Remodeling Magazine, here are the renovations with the top return on investment:

1. Adding a manufactured stone veneer. The average cost is about $9,300, while the average cost recovered is 96%.

2. Replacing your garage door. The average cost is about $3,700, while the average cost recovered is 94%.

3. Siding replacement (e.g., with cement fiberboard or a hardy plank-type material). The average cost is about $17,000, while the average cost recovered is about 78%.

4. Window replacement. The average cost is about $17,000, while the average cost recovered is about 72%.

5. Deck additions. The average cost is about $14,000, while the average cost recovered is about 72%.

6. Front door replacement. The average cost is about $19,000, while the average cost recovered is about 69%.

7. Roof replacement. The average cost is about $24,000, while the average cost recovered is about 66%.
